Detour To The Other Side

Steph About Town in Kos, Greece

While we were in Turkey we decided to jump ship for the day and head to Greece. Kos island is only a 20 minutes boat ride from Bodrum so is really easy to get to and worth the trip!

Having said that the queue at border control on the Turkish side is dire. If you do go be prepared to stand outside in the sweltering heat for two hours with no shade and no water. It's like they're making you withstand a trail to punish you for wanting to leave Turkey. It really is not pleasant. Once we finally made it through we jumped on the catamaran, and after a power nap, we were there in no time!

We wandered aimlessly for the day, just stumbling upon drinks, more ancient ruins, feta, the Hippocrates Tree, castles, and my favourite - frappƩ coffees!

Turkey Travel Diary - Ephesus

Steph About Town in Ephesus, Turkey

Last week I took a mini break from London and flew off to Turkey in search of some summer sun. The last time I went somewhere hot and sunny was Costa Rica and that was SIX years ago (time flies when you're getting old *shudders*), so it was definitely time for somewhere new. My luggage got lost on the way so for the first three days we were confined to the resort while I played dress up in Julie's clothes, but when it finally arrived it was like Christmas! Once I was armed with shoes that actually fit me, we went off to have a little explore around Turkey, starting with the ancient Greek city of Ephesus.

I may have been slightly obsessed with the cats that live in Ephesus. They are just so casual sunbathing on ruins from the 10 century B.C. Be prepared for many cat photos...

Public bathrooms had an entirely different meaning in ancient Greece.

This is the Library of Celsus, which at one point was the third largest in the world, filled with thousands of parchments and scrolls. Only the facade remains but is incredibly beautiful. Governor Celsus, whom the library was built in remembrance of, is buried underneath in a sarcophagus.
